Marketplaces

When I was stepping into whiksy world in 2013 there was just few reliable places where you could buy bottles. It used to be Mr T in Germany, Mr M in Netherlands, SWA just started. Bigger guys like McTears, Christies, Bonhams had some Lots - but not much trade was in there. I was registered as Buyer in all of them. I have learned a lot.

Marketplaces

Today Spirits Radar shows a lot of new auctions. They have very good interface. We can navigate Lots while drinking tea in Paris or Rome. Plus we have Marketplaces like Cata. Plus closed auctions like Buy Your Cask. Plus OnBuy in UK. Plus oh – maybe Vinted will step in - as they have just gotten new share infusion with updated valuation of 5 MM$ !

All auctions, marketplaces, platforms are the engines for real demand/supply transactions. These are the places where: product, seller and buyer can meet.

What are the benefits? – for Seller: visibility, possibility of testing products, isolated sales channel. For Buyer: freedom, security, very easy mobile navigation, good offers.

What are the risks? – as Seller you could be switched off in 1 day. So you build your channel for 3 years and you are switched off - based on random corpo person decision. As Buyer – you could pay and get damaged boxes and nobody cares.

In general, we live in fantastic times. In my view, there will be more Marketplaces. More auctions. More dedicated editions for those Sales Channels. I really see the future of online trade. Buyer and Seller meet in real time. A replication of 'marche artisanal' somewhere in the South of France.
